When trying to set up the VPN Client on a home network, we experienced a compatibility problem. The Client was not compatible with Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing. Has anyone ever come across this and know of a solution?

Please note the following information taken from the VPN Client 3.0 Release Notes:

"Incompatibility between VPN Client and Internet Connection Sharing applications:

The VPN Client is not compatible with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) applications. You cannot install the VPN Client if any of these Internet Connection Sharing applications is already installed on the PC. Do not install any Internet Connection Sharing applications after installing the VPN Client. The VPN Client does not work correctly on the same Windows system with Internet Connection Sharing applications, such as Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing or Sygate Internet Connection Sharing.

The Cisco VPN client can work from behind ICS using IPsec through NAT mode."

I am not all too familiar with the VPN Client and have just started to use it. If I create a new group and under the IPSec options check the IPSec through NAT and leave the port set to the default of 10000, will that allow a connection under ICS? It is hard to test since it is on a home pc network and not mine. Any help would be great.

Thanks,

Joe Wis

So is there any type of solution to make it work? Your last line gives me the impression that there is a solution.

This is something that you should probably play with. I know that we have run into problems where ICS is installed, but I have never taken the time to try to get it to work. I just have the user remove ICS from the network and move them to a Cable/DSL router solution.
