Hello. I'm trying to install Cisco Systems VPN Client 4.8.00.0440 on my computer. My co-workers, running similar systems, have had no problems installing this software and have been using it for some time now. My problem comes in when the setup tries to install the DNE.
The Cisco VPN setup wizard runs and does its thing for a while, then states:
Installing the Deterministic Network Enhancer
After some time a popup window appears and says:
InstallDNE
Error: DNE installation requires a reboot first. Please run this install again after restarting the computer.
Clicking OK backs out of the install and all components are removed.
Rebooting the machine and running the installer again gives the same error message requesting another reboot. This continues on and on.
I have tried logging in as administrator, uninstalling firewalls, virus scanners, and other VPNs. I've tried uninstalling by deleting reg keys and drivers manually using the instructions I've seen around here. I've also upgraded from win2k Pro to winXP. None of these has had any effect on this error message.
I can send installation log files if necessary, one line that seems especially pertainent:
07/17/06 17:45:41: dneca: INFO: DNECA RunDNEInstall DNECA: Dneinst needs reboot first (DN_E_NEED_REBOOT), ExitCode='e1230027'
Can someone help me?
Thank you for your time.
Christian

I ran into the same problem with a few of my users. Just by trial and error, I found that you have to make sure the pc has "Deterministic Netowrks" source files exist in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Deterministic Networks". Just copy from a different PC if they are not there. If this didn't fix the problem, you would need to add deterministic network service to your via network properties and that should do it.

I just ran into this same error on Windows Vista, installing VPN Client version 5. To solve it I had to Uninstall the Deterministic Network Enhancer object from an interface in the network properties.

Ran into the same problem, while trying to install 5.0.02.0090. After looking at everybody's replies, I found that I had no DNE folder in the common files directory. So, I made a copy during an installation that was failing. Once the install stopped, I manually installed the DNE service under the active network adapter... Reran the installation application and it completed successfully.
