I gather that using ssh to connect to an IOS router, I cannot use a line password to authenticate the connections (as ssh requires username _and_ password).
I can't find out if Cisco has either:
- provided a workaround other than "use local auth"
- provided a new 'line username' facility
- provided a default username (like the PIX has, as I recall)
Does anybody know? I'd prefer not to use local usernames if I can avoid it.
Thanks in advance.

The only way that I know of is using username [username] password [password].

Fair enough - about what I expected. username/password it is then ;-) Thanks.

You can login by leaving the username blank and just use you line password.

Ah - so there is a kind of default username... "".
Thanks Tuluu. Do you know if that has always been the case?
