Large Object Groups

I was trying to paste a very large object group into my config that had been generated by my predecessor. When I do this, the IOS seems to time out. Is there a good way to do this to keep it from timing out?

Hi,

Only time I have run into this problem (or anything similiar to this) is when I have copy/pasted alot of configuration in one go with Putty Client using console connection to the PIX / ASA Firewall.

Though usually when you reconnect by closing and reopening the Putty Console connection the configuration should be still there. Atleast the part that made it through.

I'm not totally sure what the situation is in your case.

Yeah, it will let me pick up where I left off after it disconnects, but I was wondering if there was a better way to handle pasting large object group lists into a config.

Hi,

Do you do this through console connection OR telnet/ssh?

I have only expirienced this with Putty Client + Console connection to ASA.

Not on telnet/ssh connection to the ASA.

I dont know if there is any better way to copy/paste the configurations.

If this happens to you in all of the above (console/telnet/ssh) then you could ofcourse try ASDM and use

Tools -> Command Line Interface -> Multiple Lines -> copy/paste the configuration and send the configuration to the ASA through the ASDM GUI
