Nortel Client connecting to Cisco 3030

We have standardized on the Cisco 3030 VPN concentrator within our organization and we need one of our vendors to establish an IPSec connection from their network. However, this vendor has Nortel Contivity clients installed on their workstations. Has anyone configured a Nortel Contivity client to establish an IPSec Tunnel to a 3030. If so - how did you do it and how did it work?

You may have better luck setting up a LAN-to-LAN connection with the vendor and then using filters to control the access to your network.

I’m pretty sure Nortel’s products follow the standards based IPSec RFC’s. The configuration language may be different but the functionality should be the same. You might need help from both vendors to get it going though.

The Cisco 3030 VPN concentrator simply will not support this type of configuration. Nortel Contivity clients do follow the standards to a large degree, but transmit a large amount of policy information (WINS, DNS, etc) through proprietary mechnisms between itself and the Nortel Contivity Extranet Switch. The Nortel client simply will not interoperate with the Cisco 3030 VPN Concentrator. I would not consider asking your vendor to run the Cisco VPN client along side the Nortel VPN Client as this will play anarchy with the operating system. Good Luck...
