port security on a 6513

While telneted I implemented port security on a 6513 module with the following command:

set port security 6/1-48 enable age 2 maximum 4 shutdown 0 unicast-flood enable violation restrict timer-type absolute

I noticed an immediate delay (slowness) on the switch in response time for commands etc...

I disabled port security, and noticed an immediate increase (speed) in response times for commands.

any suggestions as to why it might be doing that?

There might be a delay immediately after configuring port security.But as time goes on it has to come back to normal state.Try to restart the device on which the port security is configured.Refer URL
