On IDS 4235, 4250 etc, the LINUX source code is modified. Does any know where can we find the version that runs on the CISCO IDSes?

IDS 4250 runs Red Hat Linux 7.2. It should say when booting the sensor. You can also confirm by logging in with the Service account. Default user name and password is service service. If you service account does not exist, log in with the root (cisco) account and create an account called service with service privileges. The service account logs you directly into the OS.

Thanks, But we need the written code that Cisco modified for the IDS.

Hi:

I believe the source code of the Redhat-modified version of CIDS 4.x is Cisco's patented intellectual property and is not available for public use. In other words,it is not an open source product.

That's just my best guess.

Thanks,

Binh

Linux kernel code modifications are subject the GPL - there is no such thing as proprietary Linux kernel code.

-WP!

It doesn't look like their kernel has been modified.

-WP!

There are some minor changes made to the base Red Hat files covered by the GPL license.

The changes were just to get Linux running properly on the Cisco hardware and interface correctly with the Cisco IDS applications.

To request a copy of these minor changes please contact the TAC.

NOTE: This does not include the Cisco IDS source code. The IDS code is not based on GPL source code and so is not covered under the GPL license.

I apologize to might have caused some confusion when I said the code was Cisco's proprietory. What I meant was the IDS component of the code. As far as the kernel, yes it is covered by GPL and should be available, but again, that's not really the meat of Cisco IDS anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks,

Binh
