URT timeouts operation

Marry Cristmas!

We need help in an implementation in my Cisco environment the URT 2.5.

We had installed 2 VPS 1101, configured Catalyst 2950-48G with 12.1.(12c)EA2 IOS and 3548XL with oldier IOS version to conversate with VPS, and configured dynamic VLAN membership on some access ports.

When the system VPS-Switch-PC is working, the Watch Server Log file writes THE VERY FREQUENTLY VQP:

Wed Dec 25 19:47:41 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtVQPPacket) VQP PACKET: {Version = 1} {Packet Type = 1} {XID = 33148} {Switch IP = 10.0.20.6} {Port Name = Fa0/21} {VLAN = Vlan_Test} {VTP = XXX} {Number Active Hosts = 0} {MAC Address = 0010.dc4f.713c}

Wed Dec 25 19:47:41 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Logon VLAN for: '0010.dc4f.713c' is 'default' in VTP domain 'XXX'

Wed Dec 25 19:47:41 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Setting vlan for: '0010.dc4f.713c' to 'Vlan_Test' for VTP domain 'XXX'

Wed Dec 25 19:47:41 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Sending VQP to Device: 10.0.20.6 {Port = Fa0/21} {MAC Address = 0010.dc4f.713c} {VLAN = Vlan_Test} {VTP Domain = XXX}

Wed Dec 25 19:48:21 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtVQPPacket) VQP PACKET: {Version = 1} {Packet Type = 1} {XID = 9968} {Switch IP = 10.0.20.3} {Port Name = Fa0/21} {VLAN = default} {VTP = XXX} {Number Active Hosts = 0} {MAC Address = 0010.dc04.e93c}

Wed Dec 25 19:48:21 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Logon VLAN for: '0010.dc04.e93c' is 'default' in VTP domain 'XXX'

Wed Dec 25 19:48:21 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Setting vlan for: '0010.dc04.e93c' to 'default' for VTP domain 'XXX'

Wed Dec 25 19:48:21 UTC 2002 TRACE:(UrtSwitchTask) Sending VQP to Device: 10.0.20.3 {Port = Fa0/21} {MAC Address = 0010.dc04.e93c} {VLAN = default} {VTP Domain = XXX}

Between such requests the timeout varies from 4 to 10 seconds, ant timeout between start verifying MAC addresses is 5 minutes.

In this configuration, we have only 4 dynamic access port on 2 switches. What will happen in case 1000 dynamic ports?

Is this operation normal?

I would suggest looking through the release notes for URT 2.5; if you are still having problems, then you should open a case with the TAC:

Hi,

I think this is normal. You can switch off most of this connections by configuring "Logon-User-Only=true". Then Logon window closes immediatly after logon, and no more verifications between client and VPS occur.

Kai

Hi, Kai.

We have next serious trouble with this URT. After dynamic VLAN had assigned to the switchport by the VPS, the PC connected to the port having unstable link to the network - the ICMP losses up to 30-40% of the pockets. After port had changed to the static access the problems disappears.

Guerman

Hi Guerman,

sorry but I can't help in this case. We are running CatOS on Cat4000 switches without any such problems.

Did you check any error counters, or can you see interesting log messages?
