Combining Two Separate VSOMs into One Complete system

We recently upgraded our systems from 6.3.3 to 7.6.1

Really starting to like the new version however it has some issues.

Our security monitors both systems from a central location but with the new version they can only run 1 SASD versus being able to run both systems in IE previously.

There has been discussion about combining both systems which would have some advantages over two separate systems.

A.           Has this been accomplished before?

B.           Is it possible to merge / combine the two without archive loss / or having to rebuild the system being added?

( Just completed rebuilding both systems entirely, not really enthused about having to rebuild one again.)

C.           Options?

So, you have an older 6.3.3 as well as a 7.6.1 installation running concurrently?

The likely recommendation will be to also upgrade the 6.3.X installation to 7.6.X as well, and then add something like a VSOM Federator to tie the two together.

Your best bet (to stay within Cisco support) would be to open a case with Cisco PDI and get their recommendations on possible options.

Scott, Thank you for responding.  We upgraded all our servers from 6.3.3 to 7.6.1, currently we have two separate VSOM systems operating on our campus. We found out we can't run two separate instances of the SASD so we are considering merging the two together and make one large system. I spoke with a TAC tech on a case involving a unrelated item but he said that would not be in the realm  of a TAC.

The Cisco PDI group is separate from TAC.

So you have multiple VSM 7.6.1 deployments then?  Definitely sounds like the use case for VSOM Federator.  It would be an additional server and license, however.

Scott,  we ended up merging the two together. First I started moving the media servers then when the Media / VSOM server was all that was left weft terminated the VSOM portion and moved it over as a Media server. Most recordings and cameras made the transition but there was a few losses.

Thanks for following up.  How did the losses occur?  Did you simply re-create the VSOM configuration for the 'side/site' that was being merged in the final VSOM... or something else?
