In Cisco VSOM 7.12.1, camera templates are used to preconfigure settings like recording modes, resolution, and retention—but you cannot change the camera model directly within an existing template once it's saved. The camera model (driver) is linked to the camera itself, not the template.
However, you can associate a different camera model (driver) with a camera in VSOM during camera creation or replacement. Here's how to handle camera model changes:
If you want to change the camera model on a camera:
Use the Replace Camera function:
Go to Media Server > Camera Management.
Select the existing camera and click Replace.
Choose New IP address or Hostname.
In the setup wizard, you can select a new camera model/driver from the list (e.g., Axis M30, Bosch, etc.).
Apply the changes and let it reinitialize with the new model.
This is the correct way to change camera type/model for a specific camera without deleting its configuration or recorded video.
🧩 If you want to create a template for a different camera model:
️ Create a new camera template
Navigate to Camera Templates.
Click Create New.
Select the desired camera model from the supported device list.
Configure all desired default settings (recording, motion, quality, etc.).
Save the template.
Then, apply this new template to future camera additions or when replacing cameras.
What you can’t do:
You cannot edit the camera model of an existing template directly.
Templates do not affect the camera driver/model once a camera is added—they only apply settings.
