I am able to make a connect to my remote RV082, I can ping the inside network gateway from the remote end but I cannot ping or get to any devices on the remote network, my local network is 192.168.15.x and the remote network is 192.168.0.x I am using WIN 7, and using the native VPN setup in WIN 7, I do a print route and everything looks fine there, I can't figure this out

Hi,

Do you have a firewall after gateway on remote network? Do you have the priviledges to access that network? Is the gateway configured to forward traffic from your remote location?

Did you change the WIN 7 firewall to enable Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol to permit incoming VPN connections?

Hope my questions will help, and not open new "can of worms"

Eugen

OK I did not have the secure socket tunn proto enabled, it is now but still

the same problem, can ping the gateway but nothing behind the gateway, the

gateway is the RV082, I have not added any firewall rules to it, that was

where I thought that my problem was, I have tried to add a rule to allow

PPTP through but it did not help

Didn’t answer all your questions:

There is not a firewall after the gateway other than the built in firewall

on the RV082

I do have privileges to access the network

I have tried all different rules on the RV082 to allow traffic to and from

the remote network to my local network with no luck

Hi,

Few more questions....

Are you connecting to remote network over WAN (public) or local (private) ?

Is the gateway connected to other router at remote site? If yes, could that router have ACL configured?

Have you tried a tracert command to see how far you can go?

Can you log into the gateway?

If you ping from win 7 can you use ping -r option to record the hops. It may show some more info.

Eugen

Yes I am connecting to the remote network over public wan (Comcast)

The device I am trying to connect to is the only router on that network and

is a Linksys RV082 and yes I can put an ACL on it, currently it has just the

default rules

I can trace route but it dies after the gateway, inside gateway address =

192.168.0.1 my home network = 192.168.15.x

Yes I can log into the gateway (RV082)

Thats good...

If you can log into the gateway, did you try to ping the network from the gateway's CLI?

I think the problems is NAT. You may have to configure PAT ( NAT overload) to use the public IP you have at the remote site. The gateway needs to translate the private 192.168.x.x address to the public one. You need to configure NAT overload to provide for any address on 192.168.0.0 to use the only public IP. I think at the moment it does one to one translation and if you look at translation table you will see that 192.168.0.1 which i guess is the inside interface on the remote network is translated to outside interface that is the public interface.

Hope this will help you

Eugen

Ron,

I am a little unclear about your configuration, but I understand that you have a tunnel connected but are unable to reach the LAN devices behind the RV082. Check the devices that you are trying to reach for antivirus/firewall software that blocks traffic from remote IPs. You may need to disable that software or create a rule to allow access from the remote LAN. Also, try pinging something like a printer or printserver behind the router, since they do not have above mentioned software.

Just to clear things up:

Everything on the remote network works fine, in fact when I use the Cisco

Quick VPN, I can access all the devices on the remote network, the problem

is that the Quick VPN is flaky, so I wanted set up a backup way to get to

it, I believe that my problem is the firewall, I have tried all different

kinds of rules and none seem to allow me to have access to the internal

network, although I can ping and connect to the RV082 from my home
