Hello,
First of all I'd like to state that I am not a guru in networks yet, there wasn't any need to so far, however because I am setting up a new NAS I decided to do a make over on my network.
I decided to go with cisco rv130w as router and a d-link modem to act as modem.
I configured the d-link modem in bridge mode and disable the nat and dhcp server on it. Then on the cisco rv130 i used PPPOE protocol and created a profile with my ISP's credentials to be able to connect to the internet.
What made me configure it this way were some articles all over the web when I researched that stated double nat & double dhcp issues and they said the best scenario is bridge mode on modem to pass the controls to the router.
So my questions are:
1) Is this(the above) really the best setup?
2) For some reason ping works but traceroute doesn't (using ubuntu)
3) How can I access the cisco CLI? Does rv130 have one?
4) Can I access d-link directly or indirectly or I have to reset it? (dhcp is disabled on the modem)
Thanks in advance,
AI GB
