How do I configure Microsoft Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Server on the RV016 DMZ Port?

Hello all,

I am in the process of installing and cconfiguring the Microsoft Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Server (a Firewall) on the DMZ port on my Linksys RV016 wired router. All three server groups, the Domain Controller, the Exchange 2010 Servers, and the Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Server are all installed on Windows 2008 Server R2. Once the Edge Transport server, which is on a workgroup, is installed and has internet access, it is necessary to subscribe it to all the 4 main Exchange 2010 Servers which are configured in my domain.

In reading my Exchange 2010 Server manal, the only port necessary to open is TCP Port 50636 on my RV016 router. My ISP is Cox Cable. The Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Servers Interal NIC is set to IP 192.168.1.8; Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0; Gateway is 0.0.0.0; and DNS is 192.168.1.2. The Edge Transport Servers External NIC is set to IP 174.79.183.133; Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.224; Gateway is 174.79.183.129; and the DNS's are 68.1.18.229 and 68.105.28.11.

My problem is when I access my RV016 router's internal setup. If I set the routers internal DMZ Host IP to 192.168.1.8 and the internal DMZ Internet IP to 174.79.183.133 and Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.224, I then have internet access. Once I then reboot the Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Server, I loose internet access. However,  if I set the router's DMZ Host IP to 192.168.1.8 and also set the router's DMZ Internet IP to 192.168.1.8, Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0, I have internal access before and after rebooting the Edge Transport Server.

If I leave the internal router's setup at DMZ Host 192.168.1.8 and the router's internal DMZ Internet IP set at 192.168.1.8 and Submask to 255.255.255.0 which allows internet access and then subscribe the Exchange 2010 Edge Transport Server and the Exchange 2010 Hub Transport Server, the subscription fails.

I am not sure but I suspect that failure of the RV016 wired router is at fault. If anyone has any other idea as to the problem I'm having with the RV016, please let me know.

Thank you for your help,

Eddie LeFiles
