New ASA5506, unable to configure

I just bought a Cisco 5506 router and I'm unable to log in through the web interface.   When I open the first screen it states to either install the asdm launcher or install the Web Start tools.  I have tried to install the web start tools but that doesn't appear to resolve the issue.  I have tried to install the ASDM launcher but it states the install was interrupted.  I also tried to connect to the device via telnet but that doesn't appear to be enabled, although I need the ASDM interface because I do not know how to configure the device via command line.   Any help would be appreciated.

Java Version,  v8, update 151

ASDM Version 7.8.1

Hello @grggyoung

Hardly you can get start with Cisco gear without some running via command line, especially Firewall ASA.

Telnet is not supported by default. But if you are able to use telnet you must be able to use SSH,usually the same program allows both, if not, install Putty. It is free and support both.

I recommend you to take a look on the following link and let me know if you have further questions:

-If I helped you somehow, please, rate it as useful.-

Thank you,  your link was helpful.  But I should have said been more clear,  just because I can connect via telnet doesn't know what do to once logged in. :)

I ended up using IE and the following link,  https://x.x.x.x/admin/public/asdm.jnlp and i was able to configure my ASA
