Hello All,
i am new to network and von config. I have an RV042 VPN router. tried to set up a VPN client to gateway or passthrough. None of them worked, it says unable to reach gateway or timeout.
I have a PPPoE broadband 75mbps connection with static IP. Also, I am unable to ping my IP from outside the network. then I turn off the firewall, i am able to ping.
Can any one help me?
Thank you.

Hi,
First let´s make clear what is your goal. You probably want to stablish a VPN connection from a remote location to your router and then connect to your local network, correct?
RV Wired Routers Series offers two types of VPN, Gateway to Gateway and Client to Gateway. Explaning:
Gateway to Gateway - You need to have two locations and both of them have a RV042, for example.
Client to Gateway - the RV042 is your gateway and you use a Client to connect.
However, mind that for connecting a client VPN to you router, the Router´s WAN IP address must be a valid IP address. I mean, from a remote location you need to be able to ping your RV042 IP address. Otherwise you would need to setup NAT on the ISP router which is not allowed most of case.

Client to Gateway

Hi Flavio Miranda,
Thank you for your reply. my goal is to enable VPN on my RV042 router (maybe passthrough) and use the QuickVPN app to connect my router from outside network (say from my office) and access my network.
my home ISP network connection with PPPoE, Username and password. they provided NAT static ip for additional cost, my ISP said they cant provide Gateway, DNS details as it is retail connection.
i am unable to ping my static ip from out side home network. in side home i can ping my static ip.
Please help me and let me how to setup and VPN on my router and access VPN?

Hi
You need client to site VPN so that you can use QuickVPN from anywhere you need. VPN passthrough, as the name suggest, the tunnel pass through the router only.
Just to be clear, you need outside connectivity to your router. If they can provide NAT, what you can do is ask a NAT like this:
ISP IP address ==port UDP 500 and port TCP 4500=====> RV042 port 500 and port TCP 4500
This way, when you were outside your network, the QuickVPN will call your ISP IP address on this port, the NAT will redirect to your RV042 on the VPN port and the conection will be stablished.
The ISP ip address can not change. It must be static.
