Our RV042 has cable modem in WAN1 and ADSL in WAN2; it is set in Smart Link Backup mode.
When the primary connection link is lost, the router activates the secondary connection.
If ISP2 signal is OK then WAN2 will act as the active link
If ISP2 signal is NOT OK (failure, idle state, ...), assuming that ISP1 is still down, then, as a consequence, all connectivity is lost.
Then, to improve effectiveness of backup mode, it is critical to assure permanent availability of ISP2 signal attached to WAN2.
The basic idea that comes to my mind is to check frequently the availability of ISP2 service- in an automatic way so that whole scheme makes sense.
If that frequent checking can be implemented, when ISP2 availability is lost, we will have instantaneous and specific notification.
This will let us take actions to have ISP2 signal in good condition so as to be available for an effective router switchover if ISP1 signal is lost.
So the question is how to check ISP2 signal availability from a remote place and given the scheme of:
ISP2 ADSL line --> Modem --> RV042-WAN2 input.
Any help will be appreciated as in various ocasions swithover did not succeed because of ISP2 signal unavailability.
