RV042G Problem with Web interface setting up Access rules and other settings

Hello,

I am having a lot of troubles setting up the router via Web interface. I have upgraded to the latest firmware (4.2.3.07) and I tried Safari and Firefox on OS X (both browsers behave identically).

Basically the web interface does not work as intended and I don't understand whether this is a bug within the interface or it is due to some other settings.

Example 1: Setting Port Forwarding (Setup>Forwarding).

In service popup menu, select e.g. HTTP [TCP/80~80]. Enter IP address of local machine and check Enable. Click Add to list. Service correctly shows up in list. Click Save. Now instead of HTTP, I see [ALL/0~0]->192.168.2.2 [Enabled]. That is, ALL TRAFFIC goes to local machine. WTF?

Example 2: Setting Firewall access rules (Firewall>Access Rules).

Click Add. The Service popup menu only shows Ping [ICMP/255~255]. No matter what I do with Service Management, there is no way to select anything by Ping in Service.

If I try the Wizard, when it comes to Service, the popup menu is BLANK (empty).

Any ideas?

Hello,

I hope you are doing well. It seems you are having issues with the web browser since there is not any bug relating that issue with that firmware version.

To make sure the issue is not with the device I would advise you to try a different computer or web browser to see if you are getting the same error. If you use a windows computer try to add that page to the compatibility views

After this if you can get screenshots for that error it would be great

Regards,

Jorge, thanks for replying....after two months!

I have followed your advice and tried with a Windows 7 computer--with the exact same results. I don't know what "compatibility views" is. I used Firefox browser.

Here are screenshots of Example 1.

First, I go into Setup>Forwarding, and select a service from the popup menu. It doesn't matter what service I select, the problem happens with ALL OF THEM. Let's try it with FTP as an example:

Screenshot 1

Next, I fill in the local IP address and click the "Add to list" button:

Screenshot 2

At this point, the service is added to the list and everything seems correct:

Screenshot 3

But now, let's hit the "Save" button. And there is the result:

Screenshot 4

Notice how the service has changed to [ALL/0~0] instead of [FTP/21~21]!!!

What is going on?!?

Hello,

Thanks for replying as well, I just started taking care of those unanswered posts.

I will do a Lab on my site and document all this and do some more tests also with the Firewall access rules settings, to make sure this is a firmware issue so I can take this to the developers so it can be fix probably in the next firmware release. I will keep you updated with my results.

Thank you for letting us know about this situation and your patience.

Regards

Jorge,

I am impressed to get an answer on a Sunday just after 30 minutes...

If the problem is indeed in the firmware, the path to a solution that you outline may require months.

I know that this worked with a previous firmware release (but I don't remember which one). Stupid me for thinking about "upgrading" the firmware--I should have left it alone.

Anyway, I see that there are two older releases still available (4.2.2.08 and 4.2.1.02). I am tempted to revert to a previous version. As far as I understand, the only drawback of doing this is that the configuration WILL NOT BE PRESERVED, so I will have to reconfigure the router from scratch. Can you confirm this fact?

Hello,

That´s because I was taking some of my spare time to reply some posts  :D

You are right when you say it could take months to get that resolved since we don’t know exactly when a new firmware will be released.

As far I as know when you do the downgrade the configuration will be lost and you will need to configure again from the beginning.

I will do the Lab tomorrow when I arrive to the office and contact you back.

Regards,

Hello,

I have completed the LAB with the same RV042G firmware version 4.2.3.07 (the latest one).  and surprisingly I am not getting the same issue you are getting.

after I added to the list and click on SAVE I am getting this results shown on the attached image

so I would say if you can perform a factory reset on the device to see if you are still getting the same results because I did not get that error

Regards,

Thanks a lot.

I guess there is some setting in the setup that makes the router behave this way.

I agree that a reset is in order. It will take me some time because I will have to go through all the setups and painstakingly take screenshots of all of them.

I understand please do that and once you are done with than keep us updated so we can continue helping you.

Regards,
