RV110W DHCP question?

On rv110w, I have 4 vlans.

vlan3 feeds a dumb switch and a Wireless AP. When looking at router DHCP leases, it shows devices connected that are not connected. Kinda like it doesn't refresh the list. Set to 50 leases. Questions: Is this normal? How often should it refresh? Is the DHCP time put in as minutes???

Many thanks for providing related info.

Well, if you have 50 IP pool and 50 users connect and disconnect within the day, I would expect you may run out. I would set the DHCP lease to 1-2 hours so you may keep a constant 'refresh' of this and that problem should go away.

Hi Bill, by default the DHCP lease time is 0. This means the lease will last 1 day. Try to set the lease time to something lower such as 5 (minutes) and you should see the DHCP leased clients table update every 5 minutes. However, I wouldn't use a 5 minute lease as a solution, only for testing.

The parameter is in minutes.

Thanks, I will try 1st thing tomorrow and let you know the results.

When time was set for 5 minutes, after 10plus minutes, the Networking-LAN-DHCP Leased clients shows a total of 50 (max) clients for VLAN3 and there should have been only 2 connected.

I had to ping the AP to get that VLAN returned to life (showing up as connected devices under status tab). This VLAN3 connection does not appear to be stable as the wireless through the AP (and even the switch) is unreliable. The AP has a static IP of .3.50 which is less than the .3.100-.3.149 range. I assume this is the correct setup for the AP??

Thanks for the help. The devices that are connected to the switch don't always show up. Something is wrong here, just can't put my finger on it.

Under STATUS -> CONNECTED DEVICES what does it say? And if you disconnect a device, does it update?

A connected device will show up and when disconnected, goes away.

In the LAN dhcp clients list it does not go away.

I have dhcp time set to 300 for VLAN3.

Sounds like a cosmetic failure. If it is concerning, I'd call the SBSC and ask for clarification of behavior or use the connected devices section for accurate information.

One of the wireless users commented that if they had previously connected, they could reconnect when new users could not connect. (Is VLAN3 not releasing ips properly?)

Thank you Tom for your help. I will call the SBSC.

I will do that and cross my fingers. I will let you know.

Thanks

Tom was correct all the way. Being unfamiliar with Cisco site, I had mistakenly upgraded the firmware in my router using the old firmware file (if that is possible). Anyway, firmware was outdated and correct firmware and lease time setting of 120 minutes works just fine. Thanks again, Tom.
