I've been using an RVS4000 quite happily for a number of years. My setup included multiple VLAN's, but routing between VLAN's was disabled.
I recently expanded my network with a number of VOIP devices, and an Asterisk server on my Synology NAS. My initial deployment had the VOIP devices on the same VLAN as the NAS.
I am now in the process of moving the VOIP devices to a separate VLAN, but I am running into some network issues. Inter-VLAN routing has been enabled on the RVS4000, and firewall has been opened up to allow all traffic between my NAS and VOIP VLAN. After a clean boot of the environment, and prior to any communication between the VOIP device and the NAS, routing is working as expected. However, as soon as VOIP device tries to register on the NAS, routing stops working.
I was able to track this down to an ICMP redirect packet that in sent from the RVS4000 gateway to the NAS (and possibly also the VOIP device). This is quite surprising. Although the NAS and VOIP device are on the same interface, I would not expect an ICMP redirect to be sent for an address on a different VLAN (http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ip/routing-information-protocol-rip/13714-43.html)
Is there something I am misunderstanding, is this a configuration issue, or is this a bug in the RVS4000 firmware (version 1.3.3.6) ? (I am not a networking specialist, but do have a fair understanding)
In case of the latter, I do understand the RVS4000 is end-of-life. I was planning to replace the RVS4000 later this year, possibly with a RV220W or RV320. Can anyone confirm that this issue does not occur with these routers?
