SRP521 and permanent VPN

Hi all!

Maybe is a very repeated question but I tried to get the same answer from my dealer and from a CISCO partner and was impossible.

We have to communicate a power meter with a control center using an internet connection. We don't have a public/static IP. We must create a VPN tunnel for security reasons.

Is it possible to use an SRP521/SRP527 to create a permanent (and fault tolerant and reliable) VPN tunnel to an ASA5510? Now we are using (without good results. Sometimes, under certain circuntances, is not reliable) the CISCO VPN Client software for windows.

Is it better to use CISCO Series 800?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

If the ASA5510 has a public IP address, then the SRP521 will be able to create this tunnel.

Of course, the 800 series product will work for you too.

Andy

Hi Andy,

All the SRP521 routers will be installed in an unattended site. Does the router automatically recover the tunnel if it occasionally drops? Do we have to make a manual action to recover connection?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

It should do.  Use DPD.

We have been adding some additional functionality recently to increase the certainty of automatic reconnection - this will be made available in the next maintenace release.
