I just bought a WRVS4400N last week to replace my existing LinkSys WRH54G. To my disappointment, I now have a problem that this router halts everytime any eMule/P2P client is connected for more than 15~30 minutes, no matter the uPNP is enabled or not, When it halts, the only thing to get it work is to unplug its power cable then back on. So, I then upgraded its firmware from 2.0.1.3 to 2.0.2.1, but the problem still persists. However, the truth is that this problem never happened on my WRH54G

Hi Jacky,
Thank you for posting. The problem you are experiencing may have something to do with IPS. Try disabling IPS while you are using the eMule/P2P client and see if you have better results. If this does not work, please reply with some more information about your internet connection and network topology. (i.e. DSL or cable, internet speed, how many PCs are connected to the router, how many use the same P2P software, etc.)

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I tried to disable the IPS but problem was the same, so I did a 'hardware' reset yesterday by pressing the reset button on its rear, then plugged in its power cable and held for 30 seconds. After that, I reconfigured it by leaving everything default except for changing admin/wireless passwords, eMule port range forwarding & saving my ADSL(PPPoE) account of course. The good new is that my router didn't halt(hang) in the past 10 hours with 1xPC eMule/P2P client connected. The bad news is that the eMule client has to be closed & then opened again every a couple of hours to get it run at the HighID, but this matter never happened on my WRH54G... So, it's obviously that there is something wrong with my WRVS4400N still?
BTW, my internet/network connection is as follows: ADSL / 6Mbps / 3~4 PCs /one(1) eMule client only.

Since you are using DSL, lower the MTU on the WAN port to 1492. It is very possible that you are getting fragmented packets and the router eventually cannot keep up anymore. You may need to go even lower with the MTU if you continue to have issues. For reasons unknown to me the Small Business Routers are much more sensitive to MTU than consumer routers.

Many thanks for your advices. After I changed the MTU to 1492, the eMule client remained at HighID much longer yesterday, say nearly 6 hours, and it won't go back to HighID even if I close eMule and launch it again, and eMule's log said that uPNP mapping failed. So I had to disable Local Area Connection in Control Panel, and then Enable it again...
