1721 Router Configuration - Advanced IP Services

I just got my 1721 Router along with the Advanced IP Services feature pack CD. Does the Advanced IP Services come preloaded in the image or do I have to load it? The reason I ask is that I am using the SDM to configure the router and I can't access the VPN features. Do I need to activate this feature through the CLI? Or, do I need to load the Advanced IP Services?

This output confirms that you are running the IP Base feature set. This feature set does not have support for VPN. So yes you will need to load the IP Advanced Services image.

I do not have experience with the RSL software so I do not have advice to offer about it. I would hope that it came with some kind of documentation that would include instructions or something that would guide you through using it.

My experience of loading new software images on Cisco routers is that I have put the new image on a server (can be tftp or can be ftp) and then copy the new image from the server into router flash (using tftp or ftp). If you do not find instructions on how to use the RSL software, I assume that you can copy the image from the CD to a server and then copy from the server to the router.

The easy way to answer your question is to post the output of show version. Part of that output will identify what code and feature set that you are running on the router. When we know that we will know whether you need to load Advanced IP Services from the CD.

Based on your description of the situation, particularly the inability to access VPN features makes me assume that the router is running code which does not support it and that you will need to load the IP Advanced Services code. We will knokw for sure when you post the output of show version.

Rick,

Here is the output. I am assuming you are correct in that I will need to load the Advanced IP Services pack. That leads me to the next logical question. How do I go about doing that? I have the RSL software.
