1921 vs 2921 Router

Hi all

Firstly please forgive my ignorance, but I have next to no knowledge of networks!

We currently have a 20/100 leased line and a Cisco 800 series router.

We are soon to go the whole hog and upgrade it to 100/100. I've got a good price from one supplier who gives the 1921 router. Another supplier has said that we'll struggle with the 1921 and should have a 2921. Is he right? It will be used for internet access, email and sending large files etc only.

Thanks

Nick

Cisco recommends the 1921 for up to 15 Mbps and the 2921 for up to 50 Mbps.  Cisco recommendations are conservative, to insure you have sufficient performance regardless on how you use the router.

I've attached a Cisco whitepaper that discusses performance, of many of the ISRs.  The whitepaper discusses performance for different usages.

Thanks Joseph

I've actually seen that white paper, but a lot of it is gobbledygook to me! What I didn't mention is that we're a small office with at most 7 or 8 users surfing, emailing or uploading/downloading files. Even so, it sound like we'd be better off with the 2921?

As the 2921 has about 3x the performance of a 1921, yes it probably would be a better choice for 100 Mbps.
