4 port Switch module

I have a 1720 router with a 4 port Ethernet switch in one of the modules and the router does not recognize it. The LED for the module comes on and states WIC 1 OK, but the router does not recognize it. I upgraded the IOS on it to the latest. Doesn't this router support this card?

Are you trying to address the individual ports as separate interfaces, or addressing all four as a group (i.e., VLAN 1)?

As long as you're addressing the group as a single routed entity, then it sounds like a dead port.

I'm pretty sure you cannot address the individual ports as four seperately routed interfaces.

Good Luck

Scott

I am supposed to be able to see them as separate interfaces, i.e.

interface FastEthernet1

switchport access vlan 2

!

interface FastEthernet2

!

interface FastEthernet3

!

interface FastEthernet4

I would then create a VLAN as in this config and assign it an IP.

My whole purpose in doing this is I have a DSL line to backup the Internet T1.

I have another router that I have the same card and the router identified the interfaces just fine, this does not for some reason.

See below what the SH TECH shows.

What code are you running? Looking at the data sheet:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps221/products_data_sheet09186a00801c749d.html

I see that it needs either 12.3XC code, or 12.4T.

12.3(19), shouldn't that work? Or it must be of the C type or 12.4?

Nope, 12.3(19) is mainline and according to the IOS map, it does not look like it branched off that XC train. You either need a 12.4T or a 12.3(2)XC or later in the same train.
