BGP Timers

Hello. I have a Catalyst L3 switch facing two ISPs using BGP (one ISP as primary and the other as backup), and the keepalive and holdtime are the defaults. I need to reduce this timers (keepalive 20 seconds, holdtime 60 seconds) in order to get a faster response if the primary ISP fails, but I dont know if reducing bgp timers might affect switch performance. Does it?

Hello acastilloh5690,

if you use these timers on only two eBGP neighbors the impact is minimal and they are not so aggressive 20/60 seconds.

You can also take advantage of ebgp fast external fallover that should be able to react to link down and should be enabled by default.
