C1111-8P, Bridging between Gi0/0/0 and Switchports

Hi, I've had a look around and can't seem to find my answer so here goes.

Long story short but with a C1111-8P is it possible to have ports Gi0/0/0 and/or Gi0/0/1 act as switchports, or be bridged to the switchports on the C1111-8P.

Reason for asking is I'm wanting to use one as a means to supply additional LAN ports, in place of a switch. The uplink I have is fibre, currently presented to a media convertor, then to a small switch.

The plan is to have the fibre present on Gi0/0/0 on the C1111-8P and then have 8 ports for use on the desk.

I know this sounds like I'm trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole. I'm just trying to make use of what I have at my disposal without needing to purchase anything else.

If it can't be done, without NAT or routing (yes I know the C1111-8P is a router not a switch) then it can't done. At least I'd have tried, thanks.

Hi @Gavin Hatton

The only option I see is add the module EHWICs which is not your case as you told already and one last attempt I would try is get in one of those ports and issue "switchport". I dont believe it will accpect the command but if does it would be how turn the port from Layer3 into Layer2.

That was my first thought, but having tried the command 'switchport' on Gi0/0/0 and Gi0/0/1, both reject it.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

so there is one L3 and other L2 port,
try bridge using BDI between both port
if not success try BDI between VLAN and port

That's kind of where I'm thinking I need to be, I've just not quite figured it out. Bridge Domains and service instances are new to me.

Attached is my running config if it helps.

I Think you config is correct.

Just one point which I will check tonight.

Thanks

MHM

Did you get a chance to check this? I'm still not able to bridge the two routed ports with the 8 switch ports.

Thanks again for looking into this more me.
