Hello Friends,
I have a cisco 870 router which ends up in the ROMMON mode after starting. It continues in the rommon mode and I am unable to type any word as it keeps on increasing the ROMMON mode number as rommon1, rommon2, rommon3...........rommonN. When I try to enter anything say DIR, it doesn't accept any alphabet and types some special characters.
Kindly check the output below :

Hi Mr. Arif,
Use this command in rommon if you are having valid IOS in it.
dev (this will check the flash or disk installed)
then finding the device you were having in it, try
dir or dir flash, check the valid ios if it is there:
then put boot command or boot flash:image name
If the router bootsup sucessfully check the config-register value;
**************************************************
If you don't have IOS previously installed try tftp upload of IOS

Thanks Mr. Sanjay,
I am unable to type anything in the rommon mode. If i try to type dev 's first alphabet say 'd' there appears some other character. When i press enter key it gives "command not found" increments like from rommon3 to rommon4. I have checked this on different laptops and PC's but same problem exist. The problem is I am unable to type any command in rommon. When I press backspace to delete the wrongly typed letter it keeps on inputing some other letters sometimes and sometimes it deletes the rommon word also.

Thanks Sanjay & Leo,
The problem is solved. The moments i used the different cable for console connection it worked fine.
The console cable which I had used for C870 is working fine on other routers but it is not working on C870 and I cant understand why.
Anyway's I am happy , it is working as I needed the router tomorrow.
