To answer the question in the subject line, OSPF will route within Area 1 for any destination that resides within Area 1 (Intra Area). For destinations outside Area 1 OSPF will need to route via Area 0 and since your branch router appears to be an ABR (has Area 0 extended to it) the Area 0 link will be used to route outside Area 1.
Usually branches do not have Area 0 extended to them and are part of a single Area even when they have redundant links. I am not sure what is/was your motivation to extend Area 0 to the remote site router but without any additional information I do not want to assume anything. If you provide more details on what exactly is your requirement we can try to assist but do provide information such as physical topology, logical OSPF design, to which destinations you are trying to route and where they logically reside within your network, etc.
