Hi,
How do I choose a WAN router? Does it purely dependend on the kind of bandwidth it is expected to handle?
What is the relationship between MPPS that a router can handle and the kind of bandwidh getting terminated on it?
Is there any ready look up list for this? Kindly help...
THanks,
Ram

Hi Ram,
It is all depends on what you need for your network. Below are some key points need to take care while choosing router.
1. Bandwidth capacity.
2. Number of VPN tunnels it will support.
3. Hardware details like RAM, Flash.
I would suggest a ISR 2951 Router is best...
It have default RAM size 512 MB and expand up to 2 GB. And Flash is 256 MB and expand upto 4 GB.
It have 4 EHWIC slots where you can insert 3G sim cards.
It support more than 1500 VPN tunnels with the AIM-EPII-PLUS Module and On-board encryption.
And it support voice also like Cisco Unity Express voicemail support and Support for Cisco Communications Manager Express and Survivable Remote Site Telephony and many more.

It depends on where the router will serve his funtion. Is this going to be a core router, edge??? Is the router going to handle the entire Internet routing table? Is it going to run any special services? Do you have any HA demands?
