Cisco 1921 vs 2921

Hi

All help and suggestions appreciated. I would like advice on which device would be most suitable (or alternatives although keep to a minimum to not muddy the waters)

We are building a secondary data centre infrastructure and require a router to manage the following

WAN

  • 2 x EHWIC-2FE modules
  • anticipated traffic is mainly web based, no voice, no serial links anticipated,
  • Firewall/VPN to be managed by ASA 55xx device
  • single Internet feed - ethernet 20M on 100M bearer
  • dual EoMPLS feeds - ethernet 100M
    • these are site to site EoMPLS across fibre rings to primary DC {to be established later}
    • anticipate having a similar model router there however
      • plan for 2 routers with 1 x EHWIC-2FE for resiliency, additional Internet feed - each router to manage Internet and site to site link
    • these 2 site to site links are essential for asynchronous replication, so automatic failover is required (managed on same router or split risk across 2 routers?)

LAN

  • multiple subnets - 12 to 16 required, possibly more
  • ability to route traffic across these subnets to multiple servers (virtual machines)
    • iSCSI SAN on separate LAN switch

Any/all options and suggestions considered

Regards

Duncan

Actually there are three intermediate models between these two - the 1941, 2901, and 2911, so you should evaluate these as well.

Attached the performance datasheet. You can evaluate it toegther with you Cisco partner, or reputable consulant, to make a decison.

Hey Duncan,

We have a similar setup and requirements.  What did you end up going with?

Thanks,

Tony
