Hi

I am having a problem with connecting my two Cisco switches one is a Cisco 3750X to a Cisco 2960S I have new SFP GLC-LH-SMD conneted to mode conditioning cable. I get the following logged and port goes down after a few minutes.

%SFF8472-5-THRESHOLD_VIOLATION: Gi1/0/26: Rx power high warning; Operating value:  -2.7 dBm, Threshold value:  -3.0 dBm.

show interfaces transceiver

If device is externally calibrated, only calibrated values are printed.

++ : high alarm, +  : high warning, -  : low warning, -- : low alarm.

NA or N/A: not applicable, Tx: transmit, Rx: receive.

mA: milliamperes, dBm: decibels (milliwatts).

What is the distance between the switches?

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

Hi

The distance is approx 350 - 400 Meters

I have changed over to GLC-SX-MMD SFP's with standard Muti Mode patch leads and it is working.

I am still not sure why the other didnt work.

Vincent,

Provide the following outputs:

sh int gig1/0/26 transceiver detail

sh idprom int gig1/0/26

Show interface gig1/0/26 transceiver threshold violations

Thanks

Ankur

I got it working with GLC-SX-MMD SFP's and Multi mode cables. All seems good now the distance is approx 350 - 400 meters still not sure why it did not work. Here is the details of the Multi Mode does this all look ok?

sh interfaces gigabitEthernet 1/0/26 transceiver

Transceiver is internally calibrated.

Hi Vincent,

The above logs look absolutely good.

I believe that you were getting the error because of the use of MCP. As the the SFP was sucking in more power than required.

Following are the installation notes for the MCP(Mode Conditioning Patch)

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/installation/note/OL_19329.html

Following is another doc related to the MCP.

Thanks

Ankur
