Hi

so are you connecting the printer direct to the 800 layer 2 ports or is it connected to a switch locally behind it ?

when you give it a static ip address what shows in the arp table is it complete with mac address associated with it for the printer  ?

Hi,

no direct but with switch but i tried it and direct and clear the arp table.

with show arp

ok why is the mac address is incomplete at layer 2 for that ip address thats what you need to check  ,

the first thing a device does when it comes online is broadcast its mac address to the port , the mac then gets added to the CAM table and then the ARP table to resolve to ip whether static or dynamic

put a laptop in the same port that the printer is in and see if that works ok with same static ip address as a test to rule out the router or switch first

i put a laptop in the same port and i didn't have any problem getting ip and Internet and my computer is discoverable from my network.

Is this a problem that i have proxy server ?

Yes so its not the network then in terms of the switch and router really ,something else could be blocking it at higher layers , cant say off my head whether its a proxy or not but it would be something to check but I would also look at why its working on one router and not this one , is there something specific security wise set on the printer itself also , does it work if you dhcp it rather than static as a test , you want your printers static but its something to check , also its not mac bound to a port secure and has to have anything specifically configured for it to work like the other switch its working on

a wireshark on the working port and non working printer port may show you something too , if one side is not communicating back and what you should be seeing on the working side

I do not see anything in the router config that looks like it would cause these symptoms. What kind of switch is connecting the printer and the router. Can you post the configuration of the switch ports for printer and router connections?

It might be helpful to turn on debug for arp (and make sure that logging is enabled - logging monitor and/or logging buffer), then power up the printer. Look for debug output with address 192168.3.40 and post the output.

sorry for the delay but something came up.  refer to your question it is a cisco switch 2960 series the main problem is i don't have access. no console no nothing! do you have any ideas for that.

what do you mean the ports from the printer? via print server i see that the port of the printer is 9100. is it helpful?

well what I was saying was you know the networks ok as when you connect a laptop to the same port it works fine so you need to check the switch port see what way it setup and compare it to the port that is working for you when the printers connected , is there a reason you don't have access do you not maintain it ?

you really need full access to troubleshoot something that's connected to it

i will try to have full access to see what is going on! when i have more details i will post again

yes it would really help to have access to the switch where its connected  , the one thing you could check probably without access to the switch if you have diagrams and notes on the local network , are the printers on the same vlan as the laptop would as the laptop worked fine

and one thing we noticed on the router was arp ip was there but the mac wasn't complete at layer 2 , as a temp workaround if you dont have access to the switch why not plug it into the router itself , I see free ports there, see if its working and if still having an issue you could try statically assigning the mac to the arp ip address for the printer on the router itself like below see if that works for you just to get it up and running , you can always look at the switch then when you have access

arp 1.1.1.1 0000.0001.0003 arpa
