Cisco E&M Cards with 82xx router

I have worked with the 28xx/38xx/29xx/39xx series routers for 20+ years with their LMR feature set and E&M cards. To my understanding this has been discontinued in newer models even though the 8200 series routers has an E&M card, I assume it does not allow for LMR Feature set to connect Land Mobile Radio tone and E&M wireline connections.

Correct?

Hello @Rob Anderson ,

do you refer to the following feature LMR with analog ports ?

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/voice/analog-signaling-e-m-did-fxs-fxo/213857-configure-land-mobile-radio-lmr-hoot.html?dtid=osscdc000283

it looks like there are also license requirements to use the feature.

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Correct,

That is it, however I believe the 4200/4300/4400 ISR routers are end of life. I was wondering if anyone had tested with the 8300 router?

I see there is a E&M FGD module available for the 8300, but appears to be used for PBX connections.

"The original design guide for LMR does not cover the required items for the latest generation of Cisco Voice Gateways. Hence, this document aims describes the LMR / Hootie feature in regards to IOS-XE devices such as ISR 4300 and 4400 series voice gateways."

Rob, have you had any luck? I'm in a similar boat here, having been tasked with interfacing a Kenwood VM5830 to a Cisco 8200 router at our new Sheriff substation. I obtained the radio to E&M cable from Hall Electronics. Looks like we're going to need the NIM-4E/M card. I'd like to know if this setup will work before spending the cash for the E&M card. Thanks, Bill

Unfortunately, It appears that the only E&M card now built by Cisco (8200) is for Phone PBX's not LMR. The LMR feature set that allowed for the E&M Keying was built into a specific IOS (Advanced IP Services) which is no longer supported.

I have worked with Hall Electronics for years.
