Comcast BGP Partial Routes

Hello,

We're dealing with an issue right with Comcast.  Our options for receiving are: default route, default route + full routing table, comcast customer routes + full routing table, full routing table.  We're using SUP720-BASE supervisors (I know I want to get 3BXL but we cannot at the moment).  Comcast doesn't offer partial routes.  Is there a way we can limit the routes we receive on our end if we request full routes + default route from them?  If so can you please give me an example of what I would add to our 6500?  Thanks.

You can filter the routes coming in to the 6500 but you would need to know which routes you wanted to accept and then drop all the others which may not be practical.

Do you have multiple connections to Comcast or a connection to another ISP ?

If not a default route would be good enough.

Jon,

I have one other transit provider other than Comcast in the building we use.  Recommendations?  Or should I consider spent money and upgrading to a 3BXL?

Thanks,
Sean

Really depends on what you want to achieve.

If Comcast don't provide partial routes then you the only thing you could do is accept full routes and filter what you don't want but the trouble is that's not really practical ie. you would have to decide what routes you do and don't want and even then they may be preferred via the other provider unless you manipulated the attributes to favour Comcast.

And if you are receiving full routes from the other provider and accepting just a default from Comcast  the Comcast link would be just a backup because it would never be used for any more specific route.

If you did go for the XL version of the supervisor be aware all your modules also need to be XL if they are using DFCs. If you have an XL supervisor but with non XL modules then the supervisor will run in non XL mode because it has to download the FIB to the modules and it can only download what the modules can hold in terms of memory.

Perhaps others can contribute to this but I can't see how you else you can do what you want.
