I have my Cisco IP Phone 192.168.195.241 connected to my router 192.168.195.246 with cisco switch in between, but I get drops at fixed regular intervals.

Sending 100, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 192.168.195.241, timeout is 2 seconds:

!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!

!!!!.!!!!!!!!!!.!!!!!.!!!!!.!!

Success rate is 87 percent (87/100), round-trip min/avg/max = 1/1/4 ms

Please clarify.

Hi there,

What is the output from 'sh int gix/x' for the switchports which are used on the physical cable route from your phone to the router interface whcic you are pinging?

cheers,

Seb.

For Avaya phones, this is normal. There is a built-in DoS prevention mechanism to protect the phones. I'm assuming that it's the same with Cisco....You wouldn't get any drops pinging it from a PC because they're not sent as fast as they are from a router/switch.

John
