DSL learning - ATM0, ATM0.1 Dialer1 and Virtual access interfaces

Hi, I've been trying to write an idiots guide as to how these interfaces interact with each other to create a DSL connection. Can anyone please sum up what each one does, how they inter-operate in plain english?

The atm interface is the physical/layer 2 interface and it will establish the dsl connection, using atm. the dialer interface is a logical interface; it will be a layer 3 interface with an IP address and it will route traffic and have access lists applied to it. that is it in a nutshell
