Frame Relay and ATM PVC Mapping

safe
Level 1
Level 1

Dear All,

In my network set up we have to take new OC-3 connection on our backbone router(3800) for customer's backhaul connectivity. Our Service provider will give us ATM connectivity.Which will terminate in OC-3 port of router.I have some doubts about network connectivity to different customers. We have already connection from our 6500 Switch to customer router.

1) If i have to give serial connection from my Backbone router(3800) to customer router then can i config frame relay between these routers. If yes then how to map ATM PVC with FR PVC in my backbone Router

TIA

Regards

SAM

The mapping between ATM and FR is done using the Frame Relay/ATM Service Interworking standard defined by the FrameRelay Forum standard FRF.8.

This mapping would normally be performed by your service provider's WAN switches.

Hope this helps,

Thanks hritter,

Actually my service provider will give us ATM PVC which will terminate on our Router (3845) after that we give different Serial connection to different customer. That means ATM pvc will from Provider switch till our router ( 3800).After that i am planning to give frame realy connection till customer router.Or if u have any other solution please let me know .

TIA

I think this design makes a lot of sense and it is very commonly used.

Hope this helps,
