How can I identify if VPN Hardware encryption module is built in a router or external Hardware encryption module can be plugged to router.

To enable the VPN module you need to be running "crypto" feature set IOS.

To see if you have a built-in or on-board VPN use either one of the commands:

1.  sh inventory; or
2.  sh crypto engine brief (look and "crypto engine type")
