High CPU processes

Processes on my 5500 range between 50-99% depending on time of day.

Yet, with "show processes cpu" the only process greater than 1% is IP input, which ranges between 30%-50%.

What is causing the high CPU utilization ?

you need to capture a show proc cpu at the time the cpu is actually high to find out what process is contributing to the high utilization. Like you, I can't tell what process is causing high cpu from the history output.
