High CPU Utilization Cisco 1941 Router

Level 1

The CPU utilization has been averaging about 65% which is way up from its usual 3-5%. When I do a "show processes cpu sorted" I do not see anything using a high amount of CPU. What could it be/where else should I look?

Hello,

the voice policy is not applied anywhere, so it it not working. Also, you match all IP traffic...for a 'real' voice QoS, you would need to match only certain ports...

Can you check what the 'variance 2' is needed for ? It causes EIGRP to use more than one route if certain conditions are met...is that what you want ?

We have an alternate route that we are currently using for unequal-cost load balancing in EIGRP. We will be changing this soon by removing the variance command but for now it is find. Could you explain why it seems that the "no ip nbar protocol-discovery" interface subcommand fixed the high cpu utilization issue?

Hello,

NBAR can be CPU intensive due to interrupts (which you don't see with 'show proc cpu'). How old is the 1941 ? There is a first and a second generation, if your 1941 belongs to the first, it is not really that powerful...

In the output of show proc cpu, it shows two percentages separated by a forward slash. It’s my understanding that the second percentage is the interrupts utilization, yes? It looks like almost all of my utilization was caused by these interrupts.

How do I see which generation my 1941 is? Anything from the sh ver command? I know it has been in place at least 6-7 years but not sure after that.

Hello,

can you post the output of 'show ver' ?

Hello,

what I meant to say is that the interrupts don't show up in the list of processes.

'show version' should list a serial number, there are various tools which allow you to look up the details of a device based on the serial number...

Here is show ver
