How many OSPF routes does a Catalyst 3750 support?

Hi all,

I just want to know how many ospf routes a catalyst 3740 support ?

The cisco doc or datasheets doesn't answer this clearly. Because there is only a statement "unicast routes"!? Does this means all unicast routes (eigrp, ospf....static)

If so, there is a statement for about 10k routes ?!

Any comments ?

maybe you want to check this file:

By the way it is not really a reference the number of routes.. especially with dynamic routing protocols. You should instead define the IGP you are using and the PPS/Mbps that a determined router supports.

Recommendations/limits for OSPF are essentially two:

1) no more than 90 routers per area

2) no more than 1000 routers in the whole domain

Of course you can find domains with 250 routers (i have seen it myself) in one area working perfectly but it is not considered a good practice..

PS: The Catalyst 3750 has generally no issues with PPS!!!

The 3750 can only contain so many routes in hardware, which varies based on model and config.  If hardware resources are exceeded, routing performance can slow to a crawl.

The amount of routes on a Catalyst is also dependent on the choosen SDM-Template. You find some values for routing-entries in the documentation:
