how to capture packets on Cisco 7206VXR NPE-G2?

Hi there,

I am attempting to capture packets on Cisco 7206 as I am able to do so on other models with the following or similar commands:

monitor capture ....................

but I can't find "capture" option on 7206. When I do issue monitor command, these are the only options I see:

call
event-trace

processes

traffic

Can someone please assist me on this so I can capture packets? Thank you.

Hi there,

What version of IOS are you using? EPC (Embedded Packet Capture) is supported on the NPE-G2 on versions 15.0(1)M4 and above.

Another solution may be to place a catalyst switch inline with the interface you are trying to capture on and configure a SPAN port.

Unfortunately, I am on 12.4(4)XD5.

Ah, well in that case if you cannot get hold of a newer version of IOS which supports EPC your only other option is to place a switch inline and run a SPAN port.
