install mode on c1111-4P

Hi,

is it wise to use the install mode on cisco 1111-4p like we do on switches?

We used to do it with bin file, i tried it with install mode using

package.conf

to boot off and that works. Is this the recommended way now for all cisco devices that run on IOS-XE?

How do you upgrade the router once you have the install mode booting of the

packages.conf file?

thanks

  1. Check the boot variable string.
  2. Check if the ROMMON version is compatible.

Other than the two, yes.  These should be it.

Good luck.

Install Mode is the recommended method.

Why?

  1. Boots faster
  2. Uses less memory and CPU during bootup
  3. Cannot install SMU in Bundle Mode

Hi Leo,

Thanks for your reply , and how would i go to upgrade a router that's in install mode ( booted from

packages.conf?

)

elsewhere on the forum here i found this below, but i have not tried it, is this the way to upgrade? Copy the newer

ios.bin

file to bootflash and then execute the "install add file

flash:ios.bin

activate commit?

copy the image to flash or bootflash
install add file

flash:IOS_XE.bin

activate commit

Hi Leo,

that document is great but unless i missed something it does not seem to explain how exactly you upgrade a router that is already in install-mode using the

package.conf

file.

What commands do i use to upgrade , are these 2 alone sufficient, then check content of the

package.conf

file like the document you refer to suggests or are there more steps to take into account here?

so upgrade steps would be :

copy the new (bin)image to flash or bootflash
install add file

flash:IOS_XE.bin

activate commit

check the content of the

package.conf

and adjust if needed?

Thanks for clarifying this Leo !
