interpreting txload/rxload (show interface)

hi,

i've a cisco 2600 with adsl wan-interface and a 3 mbit connection. when i use the commando 'show interface' the output shows (for instance) rxload 80/255.

255 are 100 percent, right?

...but from where point the cisco that 100 percent are 3 mbit!?

Hi ,

Rx load is nothing but the amount of traffic you are receiving on that particular wan interface. Rxload 80/255 means you are getting almost all 2.4Mbps from outside.

Txload means the amount of traffice which is going out from your network.

Rxload inturn depends on Txload load.

i know that rx and tx are receive/transmit...this wasn't my question. but why are 80/255 = 2,4 mbit??

i thought that 80/255 are approximately 1 mbit...and 255/255 are 3 mbits??

my original question in more detail:

why the cisco knows that the adsl-interface is connected to a 3 mbit-connection? no bandwith is configured and the show interface-command shows: BW: 448kbit!?!?
