Someone asked me what does protocol field 0 indicates in IP header?? It's confusing since protocol field only indicates upper layer protocol and 0 is used for IP Right??

gDay @parthrawat979 Protocol 0 in the IP header doesn’t represent any real upper-layer protocol. It’s simply reserved and basically means no specific protocol assigned. So it’s not used for normal IP traffic, and it doesn’t mean IP inside IP.....

also @parthrawat979 (if u wanna now about the ipv6 world) Protocol 0 is unused/reserved in IPv4, but in IPv6 it represents the Hop-by-Hop Options header. That’s why it appears in the IANA list.........
