Hi we watch Youtube program or video conference from anywhere at the same time or different time slot. I have a question of multicast pending there for long time. Since we can watch program via Youtube, why we still use multicast? Anyone like to explain? What is its benefit? thanks

Hello
I would say all those streams are unicasted, video conferencing is unicast and those from youtube will be also unicast within you own network, That is unless you have saved that video and then used your own multicast network to source it?

The benefit of multicast? Reduced bandwidth consumption.

However, "your mileage may vary" (a lot).

In a case like YouTube, unlikely much bandwidth savings on the receiving end.

Huge possible bandwidth savings on sending end.  This, though, offset with issues supporting multicast.
