Hello BGP Gurus,
Reposting the query. Please suggest on this. Planning to have BGP setup with 2ISPs. Both are equal BW & ethernet hand off.
Receiving default routes from ISPs. Two edge routers . We own /20 IP space from ARIN, but as we do not use many public IPs (may be 20 IPs), looking to advertise only one /24 subnet to both ISPs. Infrastructure will be...
2 Core Switches (static default routes point to ASAs)<--- OSPF(ASA inside ip only) --> 2 ASAs (active/stdby) ---> 2 Internet Switches --> 2 Internet routers --> EBGP--> ISPs
1. EBGPs with ISPs 2. IBGP between both Internet routers.
As both are of equal links (and definitely not Tier1 ISPs) , what is the best practice for Inbound and outbound traffic distribution. As Jon suggested in my inital posts, if I add 2 default routes to ASA point to 2 Internet routers- will that be any disadvantage?
Also, if I use HSRP , I know all traffic directs towards the one router but BGP may choose to send some outgoing via the stanby router.. is that correct?
For inbound traffic- what is the best way to advertise my /24 . Can I advertise without any AS prepend , so that both ISPs receive with same metric and BGP decide on this?
Please suggest.
Thanks in advance
