Need assistance with routing to 1 website through ASA 5505

Travis Rose

Hello everyone,

We have an environment that supports 5 VPN tunnels from remote sites into a central office in Dallas. Our Reddell office is complaining that they cannot reach a website, www.ourscada.com:8088 or 146.20.74.210. Initially I made the address object and assigned an ACL on the inside and it worked for 30 minutes but we've lost access since. I've tried so many different configurations but, as long as someone is onsite at the office, they cannot access this website. We have a ZSCALER device where I've whitelisted the domain for Ourscada.com through. Their DNS points to our Dallas DC and I've confirmed with the Dallas Office (and on the servers there) I can access the domain with no issues. This leads me to believe it's something not configured correctly on the ASA at the Redell site.

I've attached my show run for review. I've only completed the CCNA schooling and it's been 3 years since I did so I may have incorrectly configured the ACLs. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Result of the command: "show run"

Hello

Do you need to doctor any inside host to an external address? also as stated you have nat exception applied which doesnt seem applicable here.

Try the following:
no nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 dns

no access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.104.0 255.255.255.0 host OURSCADA.com
no access-list outside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.104.0 255.255.255.0 host OURSCADA.com
no access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp host OURSCADA.com 192.168.104.0 255.255.255.0 object-group DM_INLINE_TCP_7

access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp host OURSCADA.com any object-group DM_INLINE_TCP
nat (inside) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0

Hello,

you have configured this:

access-list inside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.104.0 255.255.255.0 host OURSCADA.com
nat (inside) 0 access-list inside_nat0_outbound

Since 146.20.74.210  (ourscada.com) is a public IP address not hosted locally, but on the Internet, why would you need a NAT exemption for that ? Is your Internet access through another site and not through this ASA ?

The user's DNS records point to our Dallas office even though his office is in Reddell, LA. I inherited this network from the previous IT guy so I'm trying to learn it as I go. When I'm on the Dallas Network I have no issues accessing the website. It's only the staff in Reddell experiencing the issue so I started looking at their ASA.

We have a ZSCALER cloud device that traffic is going through and when I contacted their support desk they suggested I make ACLS on the firewall. I'm not sure why this website in particular is not working. When we tried to route to the website before on 9/11 we got an error where we couldn't reach the site. Originally, I allowed all traffic in using an ACL on the inside network and, for the first 10 minutes, it worked, then I lost access again.

I need to remove that NAT now that I look at it. Good for pointing that out. EDIT:

access-list outside_nat0_outbound extended permit ip 192.168.104.0 255.255.255.0 host OURSCADA.com

This is my updated ACL grouping. I have http, https, tcp/8088, and tcp/8083 per the recommendations on ourscada.com for the java applet that the site uses.

Did you also remove the NAT exemption for that website, by deleting the line in the access list I mentioned in my earlier post ?

Hi Georg,

I have successfully removed the NAT exception as you recommended. I should have put that in the SHOW run excerpt. Thank you.

Hi Paul,

Thank you, I implemented the recommended ACLs. After saving the run, I called the user and initiated an anydesk session. I was able to finally route to the website and connect via chrome. I'll mark yours as the solution. Thanks Paul!
