I see that the maximum number of users supported on the 871 is 20. Is that specific to users that are allowed through the firewall? Is that a hard limit, or just the maximum recommended users? Id like to use the 871 as a cheap LAN-TO-LAN VPN backup device (I am currently using the 831 which works perfectly). I wouldnt be using any of the firewall features, and will only be using the e0 (inside) interface, so data wouldnt be traveling between interfaces. My worry is that I may have more then 20 users at some of these sites. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

The maximum number of users supported in 871 is 20. There is no option to support additional users.

I was able to confirm that the 20 user limit will be enforced by MAC address.

It appears at one time Cisco may have placed hardware limits on the # of users in the 18xx/87x/85x routers, but that is no longer the case. The user limits are merely recommendations, and are not enforced by any means. I just confirmed this via a TAC case.
