NV Edge interface fatal condition

Hi all,

I have a pair of ASR 9001's running IOS-XR 6.9.2 (no longer have SmartNet) that I'm attempting to setup in an NV Edge Cluster following this guide.

Cluster ports are active, and the backup ASR has booted, synced, and joined the cluster. I can see the ports in show int and both chassis are there in show chassis and show dsc. The package asr9k-9000v-nV-px-6.9.2 is active.

However, when I try to create the iRL's I get rejected, this is true for both the built-in ports as well as the linecard ports (A9K-MPA-4x10GE) - any advice is appreciated:

Hello @jacobrb ,

the reference document written by @xthuis Cisco expert refers to IOS XR version

>> Take note of the general release recommendation which at the time of writing is XR 4.2.3

Now your devices are running IOS XR 6.9.2

also check your hardware

>> Only Typhoon and Thor line cards supported in the chassis, Tridents will not work

>>

  • Only Typhoon 10Gig links allowed as IRLs
  • Only same chassis types can be connected to form an nV edge system
  • Only Cisco supported SFPs allowed for all inter-rack connections
  • The RSP front panel control plane SFPs HAVE TO BE 1GIG SFPs. 10Gig SFPs are NOT supported.
  • The RSP front panel control plane SFPs MUST be SFP-GE-S (4.2.1+) or SFP-SX-MM (4.3.0+). No other optics are officially supported.

Edit:

refer to the following document to understand the different types of linecards :

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/116726-qanda-product-00.html

Edit 2:

the feature has been removed

Please note- “IOS XR 5.3.x is the last supported release for nV cluster

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/eos-eol-notice-c51-739355.html

This why your configuration is not accepted.

You cannot build an NV edge cluster in IOS XR 6.9.2

Hope to help

Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

Thanks so much for getting back to me. Yes, that article is quite old, however I've been unable to find anything newer. I obviously do not want to run a 4.x IOS-XR release since it's so old.

Confirmed hardware is fine. Using genuine Cisco optics. The cluster links are fine, and it has clustered - so I don't believe that's the issue. I have tried the iRL's in both the MPA and built-in ports, so don't believe it's a trident issue.

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Hello @jacobrb ,

the feature has been removed

see

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/asr-9000-series-aggregation-services-routers/eos-eol-notice-c51-739355.html

Please note- “IOS XR 5.3.x is the last supported release for nV cluster

Your IOS XR release 6.9.2 does not support NV cluster aka NV edge this is why the configuration is refused

Hope to help

Giuseppe
